This visual memory test uses simultaneous spatial recall: several cells appear together, all highlights disappear, and you reconstruct the pattern without needing to remember an order. That mechanism makes it different from the site's Memory Sequence Game, where the timing and order of flashes are part of the answer.
The result describes performance in this browser task under the selected grid, target count, display time, and progression rule. It is not a measure of photographic memory, intelligence, or a standardized clinical result.
Each round starts with a preview. Several cells are chosen with seeded randomization and highlighted simultaneously. When the preview interval ends, every cell returns to its ordinary appearance. You then select the locations you remember and submit the pattern. The feedback view distinguishes correct targets, missed targets, and cells selected in error.
Because the pattern is simultaneous, selecting the right locations in a different order does not change the result. That is the central boundary between this page and sequence recall. A sequence task asks what happened first, second, and later; this visual memory task asks which positions belonged to one briefly visible set.
Rounds completed counts submitted patterns. Exact rounds require every target and no false selection. Correct selections count remembered targets; missed targets count highlighted cells you did not select; false selections count ordinary cells you selected. Selected positions is the total number of choices submitted across rounds.
Position accuracy uses a visible denominator: correct selections divided by correct selections plus missed targets plus false selections. This formula gives both omissions and extra choices a place in the result. Longest exact streak counts consecutive fully correct rounds, while highest completed level records the largest grid reached during a progressive session.
A larger grid increases the number of possible locations. More targets increase how much of the pattern must be retained. A shorter preview reduces inspection time. These settings do not create interchangeable difficulty units: moving from four to five targets is not necessarily equivalent to shortening a preview by 300 milliseconds.
Beginner mode uses a 3×3 grid, three targets, a 1.5-second preview, and five rounds. Standard begins at 4×4 with four targets and progresses over ten rounds. Advanced starts with a larger grid and shorter preview. Custom mode limits grids to 3×3 through 8×8 and prevents the target count from exceeding the available cells.
Keep the grid, number of targets, preview duration, number of rounds, progression setting, display size, and input method the same. A phone held close to the eyes creates different visual spacing from a desktop monitor, and tapping has a different selection cost from using a mouse. Compare recent runs on the same device whenever possible.
Practice changes strategy. You may learn to group cells into rows, corners, or simple shapes, so later sessions can improve even when the underlying task settings stay fixed. That learning effect is part of repeated use and is one reason not to compare a first attempt directly with a highly familiar attempt.
A missed target means a highlighted cell was omitted. A false selection means an unhighlighted cell was added. The same position accuracy can therefore come from different response patterns. Review both error types before deciding whether a session was mainly conservative, with too few selections, or expansive, with extra selections.
The task lets you revise choices before submission. It does not treat the order or speed of selecting cells as a memory score. This keeps the result centered on reconstruction of the displayed set rather than on pointer speed.
Display scaling, contrast, screen size, viewing distance, input method, interruptions, fatigue, and familiarity can all affect a round. Browser timing is suitable for controlling the preview, but this page is not calibrated laboratory equipment. Scores from different sites or devices may use different displays, rules, and formulas.
A high result does not demonstrate photographic memory, and a low result does not diagnose a memory problem. Use the history as a local record of this task under matching conditions. If you have concerns about memory in daily life, this page is not a substitute for qualified professional advice.
When a session is completed, its settings, task metrics, timestamps, and validity flags are saved under the site's versioned local session schema. The record does not include a name, email address, IP address, or device fingerprint. You can clear this tool's history from the result panel.
Local history is specific to the current browser storage. Clearing site data, using private browsing, changing browsers, or changing devices can remove or separate the record. Site-wide visit analytics are distinct from tool results; the task code does not upload the visual-memory answer pattern.
